Allotment of land for border roads not proper, petitioner tells SC

A case of permission being sought to construct and develop strategic border roads after obtaining the clearances from Standing Committee of State Wild Life Board /National Wildlife Board and after obtaining prior approval from Ministry of Environment & Forest under the Forest Conservation Act, etc. has come up before the Supreme Court bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta.

The PIL concerns the issue of settlement of Rights in National Parks and Sanctuaries and other issues under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

On Wednesday (January 10) the counsel for the petitioner (Centre For Environment Law WWF 1) submitted that the land which is allotted is not right. Senior counsel Jayant Bhushan also submitted that he wanted to file an objection. Bench allowed this.

The matter will be listed on a non-miscellaneous day.
