Ammonia polluting Yamuna, Delhi HC directs Delhi govt to find source

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday (February 22) dealing with the beautification of Yamuna floodplain and control of pollution in the floodplain was informed by one of the parties that there is the presence of  high level of  ammonia in the water which is coming to the water treatment reservoir at floodplains.

Taking note of the high level of ammonia, the NGT bench comprising of Justices Jawad Rahim, Judicial Member, S P Wangdi, Judicial Member and Dr Nagin Nanda, Expert Member directed the Delhi government and Haryana government to identify the source of pollution from which ammonia is coming.

The bench also directed Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to recheck the report submitted by it with regard to the presence of ammonia in the water.

The matter was listed for next hearing to February 27, 2018.
