The Supreme Court on Monday (November 20) was critical of yet another petition, filed to stop the release of the film Padmavati.
The lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma had filed a fresh plea before the court of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, seeking deletion of “objectionable” scenes from the film Padmavati.
On Monday Sharma said: “Padmavati herself was a designated warrior. All songs have been released. They show dancing of Padmavati. Songs of the movie have been released without censor certifications.”
At this CJI Misra said: “The censor board has a role. Should the Supreme Court intervene in stopping the release of a movie?”
Sharma said there was character assassination of more than 40 people.
At this senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the respondents, said: “It is submitted that each and every song and the movie has got certification from the Censor board.”
That was when the CJI commented: “This kind of petitions come when people do not read cinematography acts.”
