Collegium meeting on KM Joseph, other judges remains inconclusive

The Supreme Court Collegium, which met again yesterday to decide on the recommendations to the government on the promotion of come high court judges to the Supreme Court remained inconclusive.

The decision about Chattisgarh Chief Justice K M Joseph has already been taken in the last meeting- that his name will be re-recommended – but no decision was possible on the other judges and the Collegium said that this would take time.

Which means that even the recommendation of Justice Joseph’s name gets delayed in the process.

It would be interesting to note that Justice Jasti Chelameswar will henceforth not be part of the Collegium and the decision will be taken either by the truncated Collegium or with the inclusion of another member from the bench, the next senior-most. Justice Chelameswar retires on June 22, but the Supreme Court goes on holiday from May 21 and reopens on July 2. Unless the Collegium convenes in the holidays, it is unlikely that he will part of these discussions any more.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court website crashed yesterday as well, so the Collegium decision could not be uploaded in the evening.
