With the previous deadline of March 21 drawing to a close, the Delhi High Court today asked the MCD to ensure that sanitation workers are paid their pending salaries, and also directed the civic body to file an affidavit in this regard.
The bench of Chief Justice Rohini and Justice Jayant Math was hearing a petition filed by the sanitation workers who have not received their salary regularly, prompting them to go on strike that left Delhi looking like a trash can with garbage strewn across the city. It was only after the intervention by the High Court that their dues till January were cleared.
The petitioners, however, informed the court today that they have not received their pay for February.
The strike which lasted almost a fortnight, also led to a political war between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and BJP, with both the parties blaming each other for the civic crisis. While AAP claimed to have given adequate funds to the BJP for managing the MCD, BJP accused the government for mismanaging funds.
