Delhi HC orders govt. to send lawyer to aid child rape victim immediately

The Delhi High Court bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar on Thursday (February 22) ordered the Delhi government to arrange for a legal aid lawyer to immediately attend to the case of a child rape victim at the police station. It also has taken up the allegation of medical negligence.

The court has taken cognizance of two newspaper reports Cops to find if more kids were assaulted and Girl’s rape in Delhi: Child hospital doc suspended.

The bench also noted that there were deficiencies in the distribution of the victim compensation fund along with several other areas which needs to be looked into.

The counsel appearing for the Delhi government submitted: “Rs 1 crore is lying in the victim compensation fund and there is also the victim welfare fund which is being operated as per the Supreme Court order. The amount which has not been utilised must be given to Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA).”

The bench replied: “There is an overlap and it needs to be sorted out.” Next hearing on March 14.
