Draft scheme on Cauvery Management Board submitted to SC, Centre suggests two heads

The Centre on Monday (May 14) after much delay finally submitted the draft scheme on Cauvery Management Board (CMB) to the Supreme Court. It had earlier told the court that that it was unable to submit the scheme as most of the cabinet ministers were busy campaigning in the Karnataka assembly polls. The Centre has suggested two heads for the CMB one from Karnataka and one from Tamil Nadu.

The bench was hearing the plea filed by the State of Tamil Nadu seeking to initiate contempt proceedings against the Centre for not constituting the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) within the stipulated period of six weeks.

As per the last order of the court, the Secretary, Water Resources was present in the court.

The bench listed the matter for next hearing to May 17.
