The Supreme Court on Monday (March 12) dealing with the alleged extra-judicial killings in Manipur directed National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to complete investigation of the cases registered by it first and also told Special Investigation Team (SIT) to monitor the investigations by NHRC and submit the report on it under the Section 143 of CrPC.

On March 12, the bench comprising of Justices Madan B Lokur, Kurian Joseph and Deepak Gupta observed that there are two steps of investigation — 1) Registration of FIR and 2) Investigation. And investigation should be done immediately and that it does not mean that it tarnishes and reduces the importance of FIR.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Maninder Singh said that CBI officers will follow up the two cases pending before the high court and trial is concluding.

“All the 45 FIRs filed is on the CBI website. Army and others are contributing and helping in this matter and if in case there arises any difficulty in conducting the investigation then immediately he will inform the court,” Singh said.

The matter was adjourned for April 15.
