Karnataka swearing-in: SC rejects plea by squabbling Hindu Mahasabha lawyers

Adding to the chaos with the BJP ranks over the legal “defeat” in Karnataka, when its 55-hour chief minister BS Yeddyurappa had to resign just before the floor test, sure of defeat, an Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha petition to the Supreme Court to stop HD Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) from taking oath in Karnataka fell through is similar chaos.

Even during the mentioning of the case on Tuesday (May 22), lawyers fought among themselves. One lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, claiming to represent Hindu Mahasabha, said this petition is a proxy petition and the affidavit is forged. He said that the petitioner, Munna Kumar Sharma, was not the general secretary of Hindu Mahasabha.

Watching the chaos, the Supreme Court made up its mind quickly and said there will be no urgent hearing on this. The bench said: “You decide among yourselves. The matter will come up in the regular course of time.”

SPEAKER FROM CONGRESS

Meanwhile, it seems to have been decided between the JD (S) and the Congress that while the Chief Minister will be from the JD(S), the speaker of the assembly is likely to be Congressman.

Kumaraswamy on Monday met Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to discuss berth-sharing within the coalition. The swearing-in is set for tomorrow.

It is being said that the Congress had demanded that there should be two posts for Deputy Chief Ministers – one for a Dalit and the other for a Lingayat. The Congress also wants 12 posts for ministers as well as the one for the speaker. There details will be worked out in Bengaluru later today.
