Swiss giant Nestle told the Supreme Court that Monosodium Glutamate(MSG) occurs naturally, and there is no added MSG present in Maggi. The bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh was hearing Nestle’s appeal against National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission’s order and judgment by Bombay High Court regarding presence of MSG in the fast food product.
In January, the court had ordered NCDRC, New Delhi, to collect the samples from the godown of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) at Lucknow, and send it for testing at Mysore.
The matter has now been listed for July 19th for arguments
