Municipal solid waste: NGT imposes a cost of 50 lakhs on Punjab for non-compliance of its previous order

The National Green Tribunal on Monday (March 19) dealing with collection and disposal of municipal solid waste imposed a cost of Rs 50 lakhs on the State of Punjab for
non-compliance of the order by the Tribunal dated December 1, 2017 and January 15, 2018.

The bench headed by Justice Jawad Rahim also told the State of Punjab to file the status report within one week failing which the cost will be increased.

The matter was listed for further hearing to April 3, 2018.

The petitioner seeks proper management of municipal solid waste in the State of Punjab. In the previous hearings, the Court had directed the State of Punjab to
set-up four solid waste management plants at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Bathinda.
