The Delhi High Court on Monday (April 2) took the serious note of laxity on the part of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Chandigarh to provide report of analysis of mobile phones to CBI in the JNU student Najeeb Ahmed disappearance case.
The bench comprising Justice S Muralidhar and Justice I S Mehta directed CFSL senior level officer qualified for the task to complete the analysis of mobile phones and render it to the CBI on or before April 30. Additionally, the bench also directed CFSL director to be present on the next date of hearing.
The bench kept the matter for next hearing to May 8.
During the course of proceedings, the bench noted that despite reminding CFSL, Chandigarh to expedite the report of analysis of mobile phones they did not expedite the examination of mobile phones and therefore it issued specific direction to expedite the investigation.
But as of date no report has been sent to CBI, the bench observed.
The habeas corpus petition has been filed by Najeeb Ahmed’s mother Fatima Nafees seeking investigation into the disappearance of Ahmed.
Najeeb Ahmed, a student of first year M. Sc. Biotechnology in Jawaharlal Nehru University went missing on October 15, 2016 from his college campus after a scuffle with the members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
