Pak journalist escapes abduction bid

Journalism in Pakistan is getting scarier and scarier.  On Wednesday a Pakistani journalist, known for criticising his country’s military establishment, announced on social media that he had narrowly escaped being kidnapped by a gang of armed men. The journalist, Taha Siddiqui, Pakistan bureau chief of Indian television channel WION, had recently complained of being harassed by the security services.

Siddiqui, who also reports for France 24, said the attempt took place while he in a cab to the airport in Islamabad, news agencies have said.

He has tweeted, saying: “I was on my way to airport today at 8:20 am when 10-12 armed men stopped my cab and forcibly tried to abduct me. I managed to escape. Safe and with police now.”
