Pay your teachers, Delhi High Court to corporation

The municipal corporations of Delhi have been asked to pay their primary school teachers their salary for the last month right away and pay all arrears within a month.

A Delhi High Court bench led by acting chief justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar was hearing a PIL filed on non-payment of salaries to teachers belonging to primary schools run by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation for three and two months, respectively.

Loans worth Rs 1, 395 crore have been disbursed, said the Delhi government.

The bench ordered the Union of India to look into the working out of the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) trifurcation and ensure it pays its employees on time. The court also asked UoI to explain why the East Delhi Municipal Corporation faced grievances also from safai karamchari, teachers and doctors.
