The top court on Thursday (June 14) directed the Rajasthan High Court to hear the matter raising concern over the pollution created by the textile units in the town of Balotra, Rajasthan.
The bench of Justices U U Lalit and Deepak Gupta said that the matter should be heard by a
single-judge bench and the financial implications should be considered by the judge while adjudicating the matter.
The plea emanates from the study conducted by a NGO, Balotra Water Pollution Control Treatment and Research Foundation Trust to assess damage caused to the environment and health of the public on account of pollution created by the textile units in the town of Balotra.
The study had been conducted after taking note of the huge damage to the soil, underground water, agriculture and health of the public at large.
It had recommended regulating industrial activities, establishment of CETP for remediation and decontamination of ground water and soil.
