The Supreme Court bench of Justices Arun Mishra and A M Khanwilkar on Friday (February 23) granted three months time to former Chief Secretary of Jharkhand Sajal Chakraborty in the multi-million fodder scam case.

In November last year, a CBI court had sentenced Chakraborty to five years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4 lakh.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is challenging the dropping of a conspiracy charge against former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and others by the Jharkhand high court in one of the cases related to the scam.

The high court while dropping the charges had said that it cannot try a person twice for the same offence.

The Supreme Court, while setting aside the high court’s order last year, had also directed the trial court to complete the proceedings against Yadav and others within nine months.
