The Supreme Court on Wednesday (January 10) ordered that Lokayukta in Uttarakhand should be appointed within 8 months once the law on the Lokayukta comes into force in the state.
The bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud was acting on the petition seeking implementation of the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Act, 2011.
During the course of proceedings, counsel for Uttarakhand state submitted to the bench that a new law for appointment of lokayukta has been introduced in the assembly and same is likely to be passed in March, 2018.
