SC slaps a fine of Rs two lakhs on Centre for unresponsive to the plight of widows in Vrindavan

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta dealing with the case pertaining to plight of widows in Vrindavan on Wednesday (December 6) slapped a fine of Rs two lakhs to the Centre.

The bench took cognizance that 12 states had not responded to the issue. The bench found that only Manipur and Meghalaya had responded while West Bengal had responded incompletely.

The bench directed Chief Secretary of Women and Child department of Tamil Nadu to present in the court and also told Additional Solicitor General to file affidavit within 6 weeks on behalf of Union women and child committee. It also directed secretaries of women and child department in every state to respond.

The bench listed the matter for next hearing to January 30, 2018.
