The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice R K Agrawal on Friday (April 20) directed the Centre to confiscate fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s properties.
The bench passed the order while dismissing plea by Ibrahim’s sister Hasina Parkar and Amina Bi Kaskar against the attachment of Dawood’s properties in Mumbai.
Reports suggested that atleast seven properties of Ibrahim would be seized by the Centre in the prime location. The Ministry of Finance had invoked some provisions of the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture Of Property) Act (SAFEMA) to seize the properties of the don.
SAFEMA provides for forfeiture of ill-gotten properties of smugglers, foreign exchange manipulators and their kith and kin.
