The Delhi High Court Wednesday (May 30) issued notice to the Delhi Government and to unaided schools who have not refunded the fee along with 9 percent interest to the parents’ account as per the recommendations of Justice Anil Dev Committee.
The organization Social Jurist, through advocate Ashok Agarwal had filed a petition with the court seeking directions against the AAP government to attach bank accounts of all 575 erring unaided schools that had failed to refund excess fees (over Rs 750 crore) to parents as per the committee’s reports submitted to the court since 2013.
The appeal said that the Kejriwal government had done nothing so far to recover the excess fees from schools, charged to the parents from January 1, 2006 through to 2009-10 on the pretext of implementation of 6 CPC when that was not required.
The court has pulled up the Kejriwal government many times for its inaction to get the fee recovered from schools. All schools promptly hiked fees and also recovered arrears of fee from parents in terms of Delhi government order of February 11, 2009 after the court’s interim order in 2009, but when time has come to refund to parents, no school is coming forward and the government has done nothing.
