After 18 months of shutdown, 4G mobile internet services will be restored in the entire Union Territory, announced the Jammu and Kashmir’s administration on Friday.
4G mobile internet services being restored in entire J&K, tweeted Rohit Kansal, the UT’s Principal Secretary of Power and Information.
The 4G internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir hours after the Central government abrogated its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution of India on August 5, 2019, and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two union territories, Ladakh and Jammu Kashmir.
Happy at the resumption of 4G internet, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, 4G Mubarak! For the first time since Aug 2019 all of Jammu and Kashmir will have 4G mobile data, better late than never.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to explore the possibility of restoring 4G services in certain areas. Since then, the broadband internet and slow mobile data was restored in phases on several occasions in a number of districts.

Recently, the union territory has restored its 2G-internet services on January 25.
The administration had said that the services were suspended in order to stop the spread of misinformation and terrorists from abusing the networks since the abrogation of the erstwhile state. According to critics, the restrictions have cost hundreds of thousands of jobs and incurred losses to the economy.
