Allahabad High Court Bar Association and Awadh Bar Association strike work over Tribunal Bill

Association's Governing Council has also decided that it will abstain from Judicial work on February 24, 2021 and stage a peaceful demonstration near the High Court.

The High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Allahabad and the Awadh Bar Association High Court, Lucknow have resolved to abstain from judicial work on Wednesday, to express their displeasure over the passing of Uttar Pradesh Educational Services Tribunal Bill, 2021.

Both associations have cited different reasons for opposing the Bill. While HCBA, Allahabad is opposing the Bill as the Bill proposes to establish Tribunal’s Principal Bench in Lucknow, on the other hand, the Awadh Bar Association is miffed over the bifurcation of the Tribunal at two places.

The important HCBA meeting took place in the Old Study Room on Tuesday. During this, all the officials and lawyers opposed the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Tribunal Bill, 2021 passed by the State Government. The speakers have demanded the Government to constitute the Tribunal as directed by the Supreme Court.

The HCBA, in its resolution, stated the establishment of Principal Bench of Tribunal at Lucknow is against the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and that the advocates practicing at Allahabad High Court are unhappy with the decision.

The Awadh Bar Association High Court, Lucknow, in its resolution on Tuesday, stated that the step to bifurcate the Education Tribunal at two places has generated anger and resentment among the people as well as among members of the Bar.
