The Union government has approved the appointment of Justice Todupunuri Amarnath Goud as Acting Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Tuesday said, “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Justice Todupunuri Amarnath Goud (PHC: Telangana), senior-most puisne Judge of the Tripura High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from February 23, 2023, consequent upon the retirement of Jaswant Singh, Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.”
Justice Goud will take over the reins from incumbent Chief Justice Jaswant Singh, who is set to retire on February 23.
Earlier in November, 2022, Justice Goud was made the Acting Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, after the superannuation of then Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty.
Justice Goud was born on March 1, 1965 at Secunderabad to T. Krishna and Savitri. He did his LL.B. from Shivaji Law College in Marathwada University of Maharashtra and enrolled as Advocate on September 22, 1990 with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recently recommended the name of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, seniormost Judge in the Jharkhand High Court, for elevation as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
The Collegium said in its resolution of February 7 that the State of Jharkhand has remained unrepresented among the Chief Justices of the High Courts. Therefore, on retirement of Justice Jaswant Singh, Justice Apresh Kumar Singh would be appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura.
