The Bar Council of Delhi has written a letter to judges of Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Delhi Government & Delhi Police that no advocate should be evicted from rented premises by the landlord on failure of payment of monthly rent. Most of the fresh advocates around the national capital and in country are struggling as they are not able to work due to outbreak of contagious and deadly COVID-19 and thus are not able to meet day to day expenses.
The Council has also requested the High Court to issue directions like those issued by the Reserve Bank of India wherein the Governments as well as non governmental agencies have been asked to defer the payment of all dues till restoration of normalcy in the Country.
The letter also refers to the order passed by the District Magistrate, Noida who has directed the landlords to not to collect any rent for a period of one month from the tenants belonging to labour class, daily wagers and others.
The Bar Council has further requested the Court to ensure relief to the advocates in need as the Governments are in a better position and have requisite resources to help those who are in need.
The letter also read that such steps and directions to Central Government are essential to overcome the situation created due to spread of COVID-19.
