A bench of Justices B P Dharmadhikari and Z A Haq of the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench (see notification below) has directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to convey the message to all media houses to not use the word “Dalit” in their stories or news broadcasts.

The court cited the fact that this is as per an existing notification issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to the Union government and the state governments to not to use a word for someone belonging to any particular scheduled caste.
