The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Supreme Court on Monday (September 18) that it has completed its probe in the journalist Rajdeo Ranjan murder case and chargesheets have been filed against 8 persons, including former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin.

However, the central investigation agency denied any probe against RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s son and former Bihar Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav. Yadav’s photograph had appeared in the media along with a man, allegedly a sharp shooter and close aide of Shahabuddin, who is currently in Tihar jail.

The agency clarified that a mere photograph received was not enough to launch a probe and moreover, his name is not mentioned in the FIR.

CBI while filing its chargesheet against Shahabuddin had accused him of criminal conspiracy and murder in the Rajdeo Ranjan case. Ranjan, a journalist based in Siwan, Bihar, was shot dead in May 2016. His wife had alleged that he was killed at the behest of Shahabuddin, who was then in Siwan jail.

The Court listed the matter after 8 weeks.
