The Kerala High Court on June 7 refused to grant an interim stay on the Union environment ministry’s notification on the sale of cattle at cattle fairs for the purpose of slaughter.
The court, however, observed that this matter will be listed for June 28 for speedy disposal.
The court observed that there is no general ban on the slaughter or meat consumption, but the notice only bans large-scale sale of cattle through big markets, that too, for purposes of slaughter.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by Youth Congress state secretary TS Saji.
