Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kunal Ghosh, a suspect in the Rs 2,000-crore Saradha chit fund scandal of West Bengal, had been granted bail by the Calcutta High Court after a long bout in jail custody. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is handling the case, has now approached the Supreme Court through an SLP, appealing for the bail to be cancelled.
Ghosh had been granted regular bail by the high court three months after he was given interim bail.
The former MP has fallen out of favour with the state’s ruling dispensation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and had tried to act as a rebel, but that failed. Unlike Mukul Roy, Ghosh has found no takers for his talents and hence is at the mercy of the courts.
The matter came up before the bench of Justices J Chelameswar and S Abdul Nazeer. The bench issued notice.
