Supreme Court refuses to add politics, will hear the matter again on April 27
The Sutlej-Yamuna water link canal case drags on at the Supreme Court.
On April 12, appearing for the state of Punjab, senior advocate Ram Jethmalani dragged a political issue into the case, saying Haryana has a BJP government. The implication was that it would be natural to assume that it would not cooperate with the Congress-ruled Punjab government.
The bench of Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Amitava Roy quickly retorted: “We are not looking at faces. This is a proceeding for execution of order of this court (and) this is the duty of everyone.”
The government counsel submitted that the centre has called a meeting on April 20, to find a solution. He requested that the matter may be listed after April 20.
The matter was listed for April 27.
