The Union of India on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Advocate Venkatachari Lakshminarayanan as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the development on micro-blogging Twitter.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the elevation of Venkatachari Lakshminarayanan on January 19, 2023, along with the proposal to appoint Justice L. Victoria Gowri to the Madras High Court Bench.
The Madras High Court has been working at a strength of 57 Judges as against a sanctioned strength of 75, with 18 vacancies.
With the addition of Justice Lakshminarayanan, the number of sitting Madras High Court Judges will rise to 58.
