Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud completes 100 days in office

The Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has today completed 100 days in office.

This journey from live-streaming of the Constitution Bench hearings to smooth listing of cases is one of the main achievements so far.

Justice DY Chandrachud took oath of the office as the Chief Justice of India on November 9, 2022.

Under his guidance and tenure , the Supreme Court has managed to attain the full strength of 34 judges.

According to the official figures ,the Supreme Court has disposed of 36,436 cases in 2022 whereas from January 1, 2023 till February 15, the top court has disposed of 7,256 cases.

It is important to note that since the bew CJI has taken over, the number of cases disposes is 14,209 against the 13,764 new cases filed.

CJI Chandrachud, who is also the head of the e-committee of the Supreme Court, has major plans to fulfill in his two-year-long tenure till November 2024.

As per the sources, a major change with regards to the e-filing of cases to make the process smoother, seamless and user-friendly is expected soon.

It is pertinent to note that the CJI’s vision to make 34,000-plus judgments available free of cost to lawyers, law students and the public at large is moving at a great pace as 3,000 judgments have already been translated into vernacular languages.

Not only this, the CJI has also introduced a paperless system of recording the appearance of the lawyers in court and a new email policy for all internal communication within the Supreme Court, with an aim to save the environment.

It is expected that very soon the entry pass system to access the Supreme Court will become smoother.

Under the guidance of new CJI, a hackathon event was organised inside the Supreme Court , which involved all stakeholders and beneficiaries, to engage in brainstorming for out-of-the-box innovative ideas for listing cases.

Now only was the event like Hackathon conducted, the major changes were implemented in the e-filing process.

The CJI also inaugurated a gym on the SC premises that is open to all, including the housekeeping staff.
