The Central government on Saturday approved and notified the transfer of five Chief Justices and the appointment of eight judges as Chief Justices in 13 High Courts of the country.
According to a statement issued by the Law and Justice Ministry, “In exercise of power conferred under Constitution of India, President Ram Nath Kovind, in consultation with Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, is pleased to appoint eight Judges as Chief Justices of High Courts along with transfer of five Chief Justices.”
The Supreme Court Collegium had made these recommendations on September 17.
Calcutta High Court Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal has been appointed Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Prakash Srivastava has been appointed Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra has been appointed Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Justice R.R. Awasthi has been appointed Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
Justice S.C. Sharma has been appointed Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
Justice Aravind Kumar has been appointed Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.
Justice Ranjit V. More has been appointed Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
Justice R.V. Malimath has been appointed Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Along with these, the SC Collegium has recommended transfer of the following Chief Justices:
Justice Arup Kumar Goswami from Andhra Pradesh High Court has been transferred to Chhattisgarh High Court.
Justice Mohd. Rafiq has been transferred from Madhya Pradesh High Court to Himachal Pradesh High Court.
Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi has been transferred from Tripura High Court to Rajasthan High Court.
Justice Indrajit Mahanty has been transferred from Rajasthan High Court to Tripura High Court.
Justice Biswanath Somadder has been transferred from Meghalaya High Court to Sikkim High Court.
