The Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud highlighted the other side of technology, by stating how it has reduced the tolerance of people and has made truth the victim of false news.
The CJI said this while he was delivering a speech at the inaugural session of American Bar Association (ABA) International Law Section: ABA India Conference 2023 on the theme Law in the Age of Glocalisation: Convergence of India & the West.
In his address, the CJI discussed how the judges are being trolled by people who did not agree with them. He added as to howtye people are not willing to accept views which are contrary to theirs.
The CJI added that people are low on tolerance because they are not willing to accept views which do not belong to them
CJI spoke on how the humanity has retreated within due to the advent of technology offlate.He added that when the Constitution of India was drafted, no one knew how the society would evolve with something like social media and judges will be trolled by anyone who does not agree with us.
CJI Chandrachud discussed how something as a seed germinates into a theory, that cannot be tested on the anvil of rational science,however also talked about the advantages of how the technology has transformed the lives of judges.
Remembering the days of Covid,the CJI said Covid gave little options and the then CJI was worried about the closed doors for people seeking bail. It was then that our current CJI had advised him for starting video conferencing.
CJI added that video conferencing has led to decentralisation of justice and has become an important paradigm of access to justice.
The CJI proudly said that the video conferencing has prompted the equalization of justice and has connected Supreme Court to the smallest of villages, and not just Tilak Marg of Delhi.
The inaugural session was attended by the Solicitor General for India Tushar Mehta who spoke how the event like glocalisation could not have been held at a better venue than India.
He added stating that india is the centre of glocalisation. India is now a destination as an economic powerhouse in the world.”
