CJI brings daughters to Supreme Court, tells them about functioning of courtroom

Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud sprang a surprise this morning, as he reached the Supreme Court premises with his two foster daughters.

The CJI, after reaching the premises at 10 am, entered the courtroom from the public gallery and took his differently-abled daughters, aged 16 and 20, to the Court in Room No. 1, showing them how the court functioned.

Both Mahi and Priyanka were then apprised by their father about the place where the judges sit and from where the lawyers argued.

The CJI later took them to his chamber and showed his office.

It was learnt that the girls had expressed a desire to see the Supreme Court, a wish fulfilled by their doting father.

Justice Chandrachud became the 50th CJI on November 9 and will retire in 2024.
