CJI Designate Justice SA Bobde has outlined his priorities for the top judicial post in the country.

Justice Bobde who is set to take oath as CJI on Nov 18 told ANI: “Justice delivery system is good, it might require some minor changes, including the use of technology like artificial intelligence. It’s a good system, you need to use some other things.”

He further told the news agency: “There are long term measures and short term measures. Long term measures are legal education, and short term measures are better staffing, better arrangements.”

Justice Bobde will take oath as next CJI on Nov 18 and will serve the post for around 18 months. He will relinquish the post on April 23, 2021.

Earlier, on Oct 18, CJI Ranjan Gogoi had recommended the name of Justice Bobde as next CJI to the government.

CJI Gogoi demits office on November 2019 17. On that day, he will have served at the highest position of the judiciary for 13 months and 15 days.

Born in Nagpur, Justice Bobde completed graduation and obtained a law degree from Nagpur University. He practised before several Benches for over 21 years before being elevated as an Additional Judge at Bombay High Court in 2000.

He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in October 2012 and in six months, elevated to the apex court. Justice Bobde was elevated to the Supreme Court in April 2013.
