Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Reddy to host CJI NV Ramana today

After taking charge as Chief Justice of India in April this year, Justice N.V. Ramana will be hosted by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in Vijayawada on Saturday for the first time. Reddy had written to Ramana’s predecessor, then CJI S.A. Bobde, levelling several allegations against Justice Ramana.

Earlier on Friday, Justice Ramana got a rousing welcome in his native village of Ponnavaram in Krishna district on his first visit to the village since he took charge as CJI. He was welcomed in the traditional way at his village and from the pictures, it can be seen that he and Mrs Ramana were on a flower-decked bullock cart that went through the village thoroughfare.

Reports said Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Reddy will be hosting a high-tea for the CJI at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada at 5 pm on Saturday. The CM Jagan will be felicitating Justice Ramana on behalf of the state government.

This is the first time the chief minister will be meeting Justice Ramana, after he made allegations against Ramana in October 2020. The complaint said Justice Raman was trying to destabilise the Andhra Pradesh government in collusion with Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Earlier on Thursday, Justice Ramana spoke at a meeting organised by the Ramineni Foundation in Hyderabad. Here, the CJI called for greater collaboration among Telugu people for the welfare and progress of all Telugu peoples, in a reference to the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana rivalry after the creation of the new state that had necessitated the carving of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

Justice Ramana has spoken of his love for Hyderabad including at the inauguration of the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre there. He had also thanked Telangana Rashtra Samiti leader and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his efforts and cooperation in building the mediation centre.
