CJI Chandrachud assures Gujarat HCBA to look into objections against transfer of Justice Nikhil Kariel

The delegation representing the Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA)was today assured by the Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Chandrachud that the Supreme Court Collegium is examining the objections raised by the Bar against the proposed transfer of Justice Nikhil Kariel.

The delegation of 7 lawyers wh represented GHCAA met the CJI Chandrachud for a half an hour session in his chambers in the presence of two senior judges of the top court, who are also members of the Collegium – Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Mukesh R Shah.

The delegation after meeting the CJI said that a detailed representation was made and the anguish and objections of the Bar against the transfer of Justice Nikhil Kariel were conveyed to the CJI.

After the meeting, the CJI assured the representatives that the issues raised would be duly examined but also clearly said that since such assurance has been given, the advocates should not abstain from work.

There has been , no news of the GHCAA on ending the protests yet.

Advocate Hardik Brahmbhatt, Secretary GHCAA said that they are not calling off our strike as of now. It will be decided tomorrow (Tuesday) at the General Body meeting of Gujarat bar at 10 am where the collegium decision will be discussed.

After the news regarding the transfer of Justice Nikhil Kariel to Patna High Court was reported by the media, the GHCAA has been staging a protest .

CJI has yet another meeting scheduled for 4 pm today with the representatives of the Telangana bar who have similar protest against transfer of Justice A Abhishek Reddy to Patna High Court.
