A plea has been filed in the Delhi High Court against the Phase II/III clinical trial of Whole Virion Inactivated Coronavirus Vaccine (Covaxin) on healthy volunteers from the age group ranging from 2 to 18 years. Petitioner in person Sanjeev Kumar has sought the petition be listed on an urgent basis.
The plea seeks directions to criminally prosecute the persons involved in such rials and the person who authorized the conduct of such trials in the event of any death or loss of peaceful and pleasant enjoyment of life of any toddler or a minor children.
The Union of India through the ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Woman and Child Development are the main respondents along with the Central Drug Standards Control Organization and Hyderabad-based Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech.
The main prayer is to quash and set aside the order dated May 13, 2021 of the respondents for conducting Phase 2/3 trial of Whole Virion Inactivated Coronavirus vaccine on healthy volunteers is the group ranging between 2 to 18 years.
The plea wanted the respondents to place on record the details of the 525 children who will be subjected to this Phase II/III clinical trial and also records of vaccination of their parents/guardians and family members and other persons who come in close contact of such children.

The plea sought a direction to the respondents to produce the contracts under which the 525 children have been made volunteers in the clinical trials.
