New Delhi (ILNS): Considering the serious threat posed by the category 3 Cyclone Nivar, the District Magistrate of Puducherry has ordered imposition of Section 144 from 9 pm tonight till 6 am on November 26, in the entire Puducherry region.
As per the order, all shops and establishments will remain closed. Only milk stations, petrol stations and pharmacies are allowed to operate.
A letter from the magistrate says that the Indian metrological department has warned about the possible impact of the Nivar cyclone along the coastline of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Puducherry is expected to be severely impacted by the cyclone and there is grave danger to life, health or safety of the public.
The order also states: “The order shall not apply to agencies/officials of the government involved in the enforcement of the law and order and cyclone duty. Maintenance or essential services like Milk-ponlait booth, fuel bank, pharmacies and health services are allowed to continue.”
