A Delhi court deferred the hearing on expelled AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain’s anticipatory bail plea for tomorrow, in connection with an FIR lodged against him in the alleged killing of IB officer Ankit Sharma, during last week’s Delhi violence. The court deferred the matter as notice copy regarding his plea was not served to Special Investigation Team.
Hussain was booked for the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer whose body was found in North East Delhi last week amidst clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Hussain was sacked from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after the FIR was filed against him, for his alleged involvement in the violence that resulted in the death of more than 40 people, which included police personnel.
Earlier, Delhi Police had denied reports which alleged that the cops were involved in rescuing Tahir Hussain. In a statement, the Delhi Police said that the facts are that ‘on the night intervening 24/25 Feb 2020, some public men informed police deployed at Chand Bagh that Tahir Hussain was trapped as the crowd had surrounded his house’.
“The police verified the same to be incorrect and Tahir Hussain was found available in his house. It is further added that he was named as accused on 26/2/2010 upon recovery of the body of Shri Ankit Sharma. His house was searched and he was found absconding. Efforts are being made to arrest him (sic),” the police said.
The first information report (FIR) was registered against Hussain for the alleged murder of Ankit Sharma on the basis of a complaint by Sharma’s father Ravinder Kumar. The FIR, besides mentioning Section 302 (punishment for murder), also mentions Section 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
