Delhi Court directs police to explain why FIRs were not filed against BJP leaders for alleged hate speeches

A Delhi court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Police to submit a report for not filing FIRs against Union Minister Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma, while hearing a plea filed by Polit Bureau Member of CPI(M) Brinda Karat and Secretary, Delhi state unit KM Tewari for their alleged hate speech during Delhi Assembly election campaign.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Rouse Avenue Court Vishal Pahuja directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi to submit the report. The Court has asked the DCP to file his reply by February 11. The counting of votes is scheduled to happen on February 11.

Brinda Karat had approached the court after her written complaints to the Commissioner of Police and the Station Head Officer, Parliament Street Police Station weren’t acted upon.

Prior to the filing of the plea, Karat and Tiwari had written to CP, Delhi Police on January 29 and 31. But she addressed the letter to the SHO on February 2.

The CPI(M) leaders complaint against Thakur and Verma had sought filing of FIRs under Sections 153A, 153B, 295A, 298, 504, 505, 506 of the IPC.

In the complaint the left leaders claimed that Thakur and Verma were responsible for inciting violence and after their alleged hate speech, three firing incidents were reported.

Minister Anurag Thakur and BJP MP from West Delhi Parvesh Verma had made controversial statements during Delhi Assembly Election campaign on a number of occasions. The Election Commission order the removal of Thakur and Verma from list of BJP’s star campaigners , holding their action in violation to the Model Code of Conduct. Anurag was banned them from campaigning for 48 hours and Parvesh two twice banned from campaigning, 72 hours in the first case and 24 hours in the second matter.
