Serving a 10-year jail sentence at Delhi’s Tihar Jail, Chautala had sought parole so that he could take the exam for a diploma course in counselling

The Delhi High Court, on Friday (June 29), allowed former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MP Ajay Singh Chautala to be released from the national capital’s Tihar Jail on parole for two days so that he can appear for an examination to be held in Sirsa, Haryana for a diploma he is pursuing in a counselling and behavioural management course.

The 57-year-old Chautala, elder son of former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, has been serving a 10-year jail term at Tihar Jail for his role in recruitment scam involving illegal appointments of 3206 junior basic trained (JBT) teachers. Om Prakash Chautala, 83, too is serving a similar sentence at Tihar Jail for his role in the scam.

On Friday, Ajay Chautala’s petition seeking parole was heard in the Delhi High Court by Justice Vinod Goel who ruled that the petitioner “cannot be deprived of the examination” and allowed the jailed Haryana politician to be released for two days. The court said that Chautala can be released from jail on parole on Friday itself

Chautala will appear for the examination at the Sirsa centre at 2 pm on Saturday (June 30). Additionally, Justice Goel ordered that Chautala will need to deposit a personal bond of Rs 50000 and will surrender to the authorities concerned on July 1 (Sunday).
