The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice in a contempt petition filed for non-compliance with the order of the court with regards to seismic stability of buildings.
A divisional bench comprising the Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan while hearing the plea through video conferencing has sought responses over the issue from the Delhi Government and the municipal corporations.
The contempt petition has been filed by Advocate Arpit Bhargava seeking directions taking coercive steps under Contempt of Court Act against the contemnors for willful disobedience of the orders of this Court and for not complying with orders.
Earlier, the bench had directed the Delhi government and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to submit status reports on steps taken to make sure that buildings in the city are complying with the guidelines for the seismic stability of their structures, which has allegedly not been complied with till date.

The petition stated that it is amply clear that despite such serious intervention shown by the Court over a period of 5 years in the matter involving risk of wipe out of entire city of Delhi, Contemnors/Respondents have shown little concern for larger public interest and did not move an inch in the last 5 years for ground level formulation and implementation of action plan proposed to the Court. The bench has listed the matter for further hearing on January 29, 2021.
