The Delhi High Court slammed the Boxing Federation of India for its attempt to delay its elections and has directed it to finish the process of election expeditiously.
The single-judge bench of Justice Jayant Nath, while hearing the petition through video conferencing, noted that they cannot allow this mainly when there is a risk that the Government of India can de-recognize the federation for not complying with the National Sports Code.
The petition has been filed by Uttar Pradesh Amateur Boxing Association challenging the unilateral decision of President Ajay Singh delaying the elections.
The bench has rejected the request of the authorities seeking an extension to the office-bearers for three to six months on the ground of fear from Covid-19 outbreak.
According to the Sports Ministry, all sports federations must complete their election process before December 31 complying with the National Sports Code.
