Delhi HC directs Delhi Govt to set up health facility in Old Mustafabad Camp for Riot Victims

Division bench of the HC of Delhi comprising of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad has directed the Delhi Government to set up health facility within 48 hours  in the Eidgah Old Mustafabad  Camp equipped with doctors and public health officials for emergency medication to the  riot victims.

The bench was hearing an urgent petition filed by residents of Eidgah Old Mustafabad Camp seeking directions to the Delhi Government to deploy a team of doctors and public health officials for screening, testing and treating the residents in light of the Covid-19 pandemic in Delhi.

The petitioners further sought a direction to deploy sanitation workers for keeping up the hygiene of the camp and the adjoining  areas so as to prevent spread of any infection.

The petitioners informed that they along with their family members have been housed at the Camp since 02.03.2020, after violence broke out in various places in North East Delhi. The camp houses over 600 persons with poor health and sanitation condition.

Mr. Anuj Agarwal, standing Counsel for Delhi Government informed the Court that a ccordinate bench of the Delhi HC is dealing with much larger issue relating to the prevailing conditions at the Camp site and the following directions have been paased by the Court to address the issue:

  • Provision of a Fire Engine, ambulance and Mobile Toilets at the subject Camps
  • Maintenance and upkeep of cleanliness/hygiene and sanitation, and further enhancing essential public utilities including provision of beds
  • Taking necessary steps to secure the health of the riot victims
  • Ensuring the availability of the Counsellers for the riot victims, and
  • Setting up three additional camps

The bench directed the government to comply with all the directions in a time bound manner and issued directions to deploy adequate sanitation workers with equipment at the camp site for maintaining hygiene in the area.
