The Delhi High Court today while hearing the case of riot victims of Idgah relief camp at Mustafabad has directed the Delhi Government and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to provide the contact details of the nodal officers, accommodation, medicines to the families who left the relief camp.
Acting upon a plea, the division bench of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva & Justice Navin Chawla said that without getting into question whether the 275 families of riot victims vacated the camp voluntarily or they were forced to vacate, the fact remains that they are no longer at the Idgah camp. The families are facing hardships in form of food and medicines and the Government should arrange basic facilities for them at the earliest. The High Court on Friday directed the Government and EDMC to relocate the victims in community and night shelters.
Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves appearing for the petitioners pleaded that the families were initially staying at the camp and were forced to relocate by the Delhi Government and now the riot affected families are facing severe hardships of food and medicines in view of lockdown due to outbreak of COVID-19.
Rahul Mehra Standing counsel for the government replied that the officers shall get in touch with representatives of each of victim families and would further ascertain whether they require any assistance and those in need will be provided with food packets and medical kits. The Government said it will provide for appropriate accommodation to those families who need it along with contact details of officers in case any emergency arises.
The High Court after hearing both sides has listed the case for further directions on 3rd April, 2020.
