The joint registrar of the Delhi High Court, Ms Rajrani, on Tuesday (September 12) imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Kirti Azad for not filing documents on time in the defamation suit that the DDCA had filed against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the suspended BJP MP.
On the last date of hearing, on July 26, the court had taken up the defamation suit seeking damages of Rs 2.5 crore from each for alleged defamatory criticism made on the functioning and the finances of the DDCA. Azad’s counsel had then submitted a cheque of Rs 20,000 on account of cost imposed by court for late filing of response.
On Tuesday, the documents had not been filed. The second fine came as a result. The matter has been adjourned for October 25.
