The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted protection to a couple who wanted to live together against the wishes of their family members, stating that petitioners are major and their family members and associates cannot create hindrances in their life till they stay together on their own wish and consent.
The single-judge bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait has directed the SHO Sarita Vihar, Police Station to provide security to the couple till they reside in Delhi to avoid any untoward incident. “I hereby, make it clear that family members and associates of petitioners shall not create any hindrances in their life,” said Justice Kait.
The Court pronounced its judgment on a petition filed by Shivani, who wants to live with her partner against the wishes of her family and had sought the Court’s directions to her father and uncle and their associates who almost tried to get her married against her wishes, if she hadn’t left the home with her partner. Her family has also lodged an FIR against her partner in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh under Section 366 IPC for Kidnapping/abduction.
The Delhi High Court had earlier issued notice on the petition and directed the Delhi Police to provide them protection and accommodation. The Court has impleaded Investigation Officer of the UP Police and directed him to get the FIR cancelled before the Concerned Court within a week and no coercive steps shall be taken against her boyfriend.

During the hearing of the Case, the couple presented themselves virtually and the woman stated that she has not been abducted, induced or influenced by her boyfriend and they are in love with each other and they want to get married. The Court then disposed of the petition.
