Delhi HC seeks Centre’s response to PIL on Motor VehiclesTransfers

Delhi High Court today asked the Centre to respond to a plea challenging the rules regarding the re-registration of the motor vehicles.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice D. N. Patel and Justice C. Hari Shankar asked the Centre to file a reply to the PIL filed by AAP leader Deepak Bajpai and a retired bureaucrat Narendar B. Singh.

The petition seeks direction from the Court to the Central Government to keep one unified database for vehicles registered throughout India so that there is no inconvenience upon transfer from one state to another state and if a vehicle is registered at one state it automatically gets registered in the other states as well.

The petition also referred to the problems that were being faced by the public while seeking refund of the One Time Road Tax that was paid in the previous state where they have to pay the tax and then they have to come back to the authorities and ask for refund by annexing the slips and receipts of the tax that have been paid in the new state and accordingly pursue the matter.

The Delhi High Court today asked the Centre to file a reply to the plea and has posted the matter for 4th of May.
