The Delhi High Court has adjourned the hearing on a plea filed by the Association of Healthcare Providers challenging the order of the Delhi Government reserving 80% ICU beds in 33 Private Hospitals.
The Petitioner Association of Healthcare Providers seeks time to assess govt order mandating 25% reservation in hospitals having 100 beds.
The Court was informed by Delhi Government that it has passed an order in its review meeting, 2021,
“keeping in view the low occupancy of COVID beds/COVID ICU beds in the private hospitals it was decided in the said review meeting to further de-escalate COVID beds from existing 30% of the total bed capacity to 15% of the total bed capacity & COVID ICU beds from existing 40% of the total ICU bed capacity to 25% of total ICU bed capacity or at least twice the number of occupancy of COVID beds and COVID ICU beds as on 15.01.2021.”
In its review meeting it was also decided that the keepers of 70 private hospitals having bed capacity of upto 100 beds or less shall have an option of reserving COVID beds & COVID ICU beds in their respective hospitals. “However, in case there is/are COVID patients already admitted in such hospitals, they shall reserve at least twice the number of occupied COVID beds and COVID ICU beds till the time such patients are discharged or there is no COVID patient admitted in the concerned hospital,” the Order further reads.
A single-judge bench of Justice Navin Chawla was hearing a plea filed by the Association of Healthcare Providers challenging the September 12 order of the Delhi government to reserve 80% ICU beds in 33 private hospitals for Covid-19 patients.

Previously, the Delhi Government on Jan 12 had also sought an adjournment. The petitioners too protested against the Delhi government asking for the next date, and said the Delhi government is not at stake in this matter. It is forced to bear the financial loss, when 2,300 ICU beds are lying vacant in government hospitals, had claimed the petitioners association.
